Developed from Research Data © Ten Mattresses in One.

Dr. Ackermann’s Variant-Mattress is adjustable to a person’s body weight centimetre by centimetre. Only in this way, is it possible for the spinal column to maintain its normal position. X-ray photographs prove that a centimetre in the mattress means valuable millimetres to the spinal column.

Many people believe that they have solved the mattress problem by placing a board under a regular mattress—to make their bed harder. It isn’t that simple.

Your back needs help in maintaining balance during sleep. Pressure and counter-pressure must be distributed evenly under the your body to relieve the spinal column. This is a prerequisite for relaxation and a good night’s sleep.

As body weight and length differ, the mattress must provide adjustable support to give the person in question an adequate foundation. The Ackermann Variant Mattress is the only individually adjustable mattress available.

Position I provides five degrees of suppleness:

In cases of acute backache or sciatica, the support insert is to be placed
on top of the mattress with the padded side uppermost (1).
Softer support is obtained by placing the insert in the upper pocket of the mattress
with the padded side facing either up or down (2–3).
For light-weight persons, the insert may be placed in the lower pocket (4–5).
Since every spinal column has its own requirements,
it must be possible to adjust the mattress individually for suitable suppleness.

Position II provides five degrees of suppleness:

A somewhat heavier person can turn the mattress over
and place the support insert in the upper pocket (6–7).
A somewhat softer support is obtained by using the lower pocket (8–9 or 10).
The correct degree of suppleness has been reached when
your back muscles are able to relax when sleeping on your side or back—
and when you can awake from a restful sleep without back pains.
